Bullying Statistics

    At Mark Keppel High School
  • 50% of MK students think bullying is a problem in our school while the other 50% disagreed.
  • 43% of MK students have witnessed someone being bullied while 57% have not.
  • The same 43% of MK students said they would tell an adult about the bullying.
  • 85% of MK students said that they would try to stop the bullying, while 15% said that they are afraid to get involved.
  • 52% of the surveyed MK students believe that bullies should be punished in ways such as suspension or other forms of discipline. The other 48% believe in a more passive way in solving the bullying problem such as talking to the bullying to find out why they are bullying or by telling a teacher.
  • 55% of MK students believe that faculty members are aware of the bullying at school
  • 10% of MK students believe that the MK teachers are very helpful when a child is bullied; 63% believe that they are moderately helpful; 20% believe they are slightly helpful, and 7% believe they are not helpful at all.
  • 20% of the surveyed students believe that bullying is not a serious problem, 45% believe that bullying is a little serious at Mark Keppel, and 35% believe it is somewhat serious.
  • Most students believe that bullying takes place in the lunch areas and in classrooms. They also believe that bullying occurs often in bathrooms and locker rooms.

  • Approximately 32% of students report being bullied at school
  • Bullied students are more likely to take weapons to school and get involved in physical fights
  • They are more prone to depression and anxiety and mental and health problems
  • 98% of teachers and staff members believe it is their duty to intervene, but only 54% actually receive any training for dealing with bullying
  • Approximately 15% of students are bullied regularly or are the perpetrators of bullying
  • As many as 7% of American eighth-graders stay home at least once a month because of bullies
  • Many witnesses believe that the victims have a part in bringing on the bullying
  • Surveys reveal that a low percentage of students believe that adults will help
